 | item: From the urgent speech-like timbre of his tenor, to the serpentine textures and earthy groove of Elvin Jones's drumming, Coltrane's suite proceeds with escalating intensity, conveying a hard-fought wisdom and a beckoning serenity in the prayer-like drones of "Psalm," where Jones rolls and rumbles like thunder as Garrison and Tyner toll away suggestively--all the while Coltrane searches for that one climactic note worthy of the love he wants to share. A Love Supreme is a suite about redemption, a work of pure spirit and song, that encapsulates all the struggles and aspirations of the 1960s. Following hard on the heels of the lyrical, swinging Crescent, A Love Supreme heralded Coltrane's search for spiritual and musical freedom, as expressed through polyrhythms, modalities, and purely vert... see description |

 | item: The overall effect of these dozen duets is autumnal and smooth. But it's also a happy reminder that the man spent the last months of his life at work doing what he loved. --Rickey Wright . Potently, he and Gladys Knight remind us of the continued timeliness of Stevie Wonder's "Heaven Help Us All. Brother Ray is on point and cruising here. His voice sounds a bit frayed by ill health at times, but it also allows for great performances like the slyness behind the ache in his version of the old soul hit "Hey Girl" with Michael McDonald and a grand "Crazy Love" with Van Morrison. While the title is a bit corny and misleading - there was only one disc previously issued - it's what's in the package that counts, I guess. The 26 songs - they are short, since the full set runs about 80 minutes - contai... see description |

I recently bought this CD and one other-'The Best Of Nat "King" Cole'- out of curiosity, really. From my childhood, I remember seeing Nat King Cole records-"vinyls"-in my grandmothers' record collection. Now, years later, my curiosity aroused, I recently started doing a little research on the Internet about him, finding out that he died in 1965 at 45 of lung cancer(I was born in 1966), that he compared very closely to greats such as Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra, as well as others I can't think of at the moment. Well, after playing this CD, I would say he didn't ONLY compare to, but SURPASSED the names I mentioned-he definitely is an artist to add to my list of f... see description |

With the release of her long awaited follow-up album Careless Love, Peyroux's potential as an artist is truly realized. Handy, whose title track was popularized by Bessie Smith. .
